PANAJI: Subhash Phal Dessai, the Minister for Social Welfare, Government of Goa, announced on Thursday that the International Purple Fest, Goa 2024 will feature the Purple International We Care Film Festival and Purple International Summit on Inclusive Education. Scheduled for January in Panaji, Goa, these events aim to foster awareness and understanding of disability issues.
“The Purple International We Care Film Festival is being organized by the Goa State Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Directorate of Social Welfare, Govt of Goa, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India in association with United Nations, Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication, Delhi and Brotherhood. This will be held from January 8th to January 13th, 2024”, said Phal Dessai.
He further said, “The Purple International Summit on Inclusive Education will take place from January 9th to January 11th, 2024. This is being organised by the Goa State Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Directorate of Social Welfare, Govt of Goa, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India in association with Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai and Brotherhood”.
Guruprasad Pawaskar, the Goa State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities emphasized the influential role of the film medium in conveying narratives related to people with disabilities to the younger generation. Recognizing the crucial role of youngsters in shaping the future, he highlighted the festival’s role in instilling the importance of inclusion from a young age.
As part of the International Purple Fest, the organizers has urged Goans to submit short films up to 5 minutes in duration addressing disability issues. Submissions, accepted until December 29, 2023. It must include English subtitles and audio descriptions. Cash prizes of Rs. 30 thousand, Rs. 20 thousand and Rs.10 thousand will be awarded to the top three entries respectively.
