New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that the closing ceremony of IPL 2025 will be dedicated to the Indian Armed Forces as a tribute to their heroic efforts during Operation Sindoor. This military operation was launched in response to the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which tragically claimed the lives of 26 innocent civilians. The Indian Army targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK) as part of this mission.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia expressed deep respect for the armed forces, saying, “The Board salutes the bravery, courage, and selfless service of our armed forces, whose heroic efforts under Operation Sindoor continue to protect and inspire the nation. As a tribute, we have decided to dedicate the closing ceremony to the armed forces.”
The ceremony will be held on June 3 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The BCCI has invited the Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Navy Staff, and Chief of Air Staff to attend the event. The ceremony is expected to feature performances by military bands in honor of the forces.
The IPL 2025 season had been paused for a week due to the India-Pakistan conflict but resumed after a ceasefire agreement, with a revised schedule. The remaining matches are now being held across six venues, with the final rescheduled from May 26 to June 3.
Since the resumption, the BCCI has paid tribute to the armed forces by playing the national anthem before each match and displaying “Thank you, armed forces” messages on giant screens at venues.
The playoffs will begin on May 29, with Punjab Kings, Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Mumbai Indians qualifying for the next stage.
