PANAJI. A major IPL betting racket was busted by the Crime Branch in Goa, leading to the arrest of three individuals. The operation, which took place in the early hours of 5th April, saw the accused apprehended while accepting illegal bets on the ongoing IPL 2025 T20 match between Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians.
The Crime Branch received a complaint on 5th April at 00:27 hrs from Assistant Sub Inspector Santosh Surya Govenkar. According to the complaint, the accused were caught red-handed at Shardha Apartment, located behind Chodankar Hospital in Alto Porvorim, Bardez, Goa. The incident occurred between 20:45 hrs and 22:50 hrs on 4th April 2025.
The arrested individuals were identified as:Tigulla Shrinivas** (39 years old) of Malkajgiri, Telangana, Gaddala Kiran Kumar (37 years old) of Warangal, Telangana and Annathapuram Shravankumar (36 years old) of Malkajgiri, Telangana.
The Crime Branch seized three mobile phones, one laptop, and other gaming accessories from the accused. The total value of the seized items is approximately ₹1,80,000.
The accused were allegedly accepting bets through mobile phones and online platforms, violating state laws related to gambling. All three individuals have been arrested, and further investigations are ongoing.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Police Inspector Tushar Lotlikar, with the involvement of ASI Santosh Govenkar. The Crime Branch has ensured that all procedural guidelines, including those laid down by the Supreme Court, were followed during the arrest.
This bust highlights ongoing efforts to curb illegal betting activities associated with major sporting events like the IPL in the state of Goa.
