PANAJI: In a major crackdown on illegal betting, Panaji Police have busted an IPL betting racket, arresting four individuals involved in accepting bets on the ongoing IPL match between Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings. The operation unfolded in the early hours of April 12, 2025, at Hotel Fidalgo, Panaji, Goa, where the accused were caught red-handed. The arrested individuals have been identified as Manishkumar Krishnani (39), Gopalbai Kokra (45), Sandeep Panjwani (30), and Jitendra Karmani (36), all hailing from Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
The police seized six mobile phones, a laptop, and other accessories worth approximately ₹4.1 lakh from the accused. The arrests were made after a complaint was lodged by Police Sub Inspector Saheen Shetye of Panaji Police Station. The betting racket was reportedly being conducted through mobile phones and online platforms, with the accused accepting bets on the IPL match being played at the time.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Panaji Police Station PI Vijaykumar, SDPO Panaji Shri Sudesh R. Naik, and SP North Shri Akshat Kaushal, IPS. Authorities have emphasized their ongoing efforts to combat illegal betting, especially during high-profile sporting events like the IPL, as part of their broader initiative to curb unlawful activities in the region.
