PANAJI: Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) has completed the final Bituminous Concrete (BC) surfacing across all three phases of the Central Panaji road redevelopment project, a key component of the Smart City Mission. Spanning 6,850 meters, the project included the laying of the Dense Bituminous Macadam (DBM) layer and all required rectifications, completed without major road closures to ensure minimal disruption to the public.
The road improvement work was divided into three phases. Phase 1 covered 735 meters, including stretches of MG Road from St. Inez Junction to Caculo Island (185 meters) and onward to Don Bosco School (275 meters), along with SV Road from Geeta Bakery to DB Road Junction (275 meters). Phase 2 comprised 1,024 meters, covering MG Road from Don Bosco to UCO Bank (354 meters), TB Cunha Road from Café Bhonsle to DB Road Junction (320 meters), 18 June Road from the NGPDA Office to Caculo Island (140 meters), Cunha Rivera Road from Vinanti to DB Road Junction (40 meters), and MG Road from Liberty to Vinanti Restaurant (170 meters). Phase 3 completed an additional 1,415 meters, including MG Road from UCO Bank to Don Bosco School (380 meters), Market to DB Road (200 meters), Geeta Bakery to INOX (534 meters), Tom Liquor Shop to DB Road (200 meters), and two internal lanes (100 meters).
Following the surfacing work, the next phase includes road painting and traffic signage installation, scheduled from April 1 to May 31, 2025, aimed at enhancing traffic management and pedestrian safety. Landscaping and tree plantation efforts will take place from June 1 to June 30, 2025, focusing on climate-resilient planting techniques and consistent monitoring to ensure high survival rates and long-term ecological benefits.
Progress is also visible on St. Inez Road, where 3,000 meters of concrete roadwork is nearing completion. A critical milestone was achieved with the successful connection of the sewerage line from Taad Maad to the Sewage Treatment Plant, paving the way for the final surfacing works. In addition, several roads near Café Bhonsle Square have been reopened to ease local traffic congestion. These include Antao De Noronha Road (70 meters), the road near Chai Corner (30 meters), and the adjoining road to TB Cunha Road (60 meters).
“I’m pleased to report that we are well on track, with substantial progress made across key project areas including road surfacing, signage, and utility integration,” said Mr. Sanjit Rodrigues, Managing Director & CEO, IPSCDL. “Our teams have worked diligently to ensure quality execution with minimal disruption to public life. As we approach the final stretch, our focus remains on timely delivery, sustainable landscaping, and long-term urban resilience.”
The redevelopment of Central Panaji’s core road infrastructure is a significant step in IPSCDL’s ongoing mission to enhance urban mobility, safety, and quality of life for residents and visitors alike.
