PANAJI: Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Mayor Rohit Monserrate today said that those Smart City contractors showing negligence towards safety of citizens will be fired.
CCP Mayor today morning held a safety inspection across the City in the wake of the recent fatal accident.
“Those Smart City contractors showing negligence towards safety of citizens will be fired. I give them two days deadline to put in place safety measures,” said Monserrate
He further said that CCP is even contemplating filing police complaints against the contractors for negligence.
“The works will be completed as per deadline. Works going on full swing,” he added.
“The smart city works have been going on for a long time. We understand the pain of the people. We expect them (contractors) to do a good job quickly,” Monserrate said.
Mayor assured that all the Smart City Mission works in the capital will be completed on time. He further assured that the city roads will not be dug up for the next 15 years after the completion of ongoing works.
Last week, Ayush was killed when his motorcycle crashed through the weak temporary wooden planks, negligently put by the Smart City team as barricades around over a square pit dug for a manhole as a part of the sewerage project of the Smart City white elephant project. Ayush and his two-wheeler fell in the pit and he suffered severe injuries.
