PANAJI: The Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd. (IPSCDL) has filed a formal police complaint against Goa Natural Gas Private Limited (GNGPL) for allegedly carrying out unauthorized excavation work that damaged newly developed public infrastructure in the city.
According to IPSCDL officials, the incident took place on P. Shirgaonkar Road, near Hotel City Pride, where GNGPL reportedly dug up a newly constructed footpath without seeking prior approval. The footpath was developed as part of the Smart Cities Mission and remains under the Defects Liability Period (DLP), making it the responsibility of IPSCDL to maintain and oversee.
“This unauthorized activity not only violates norms but also results in damage to public property, causing inconvenience to citizens and disrespecting the sanctity of a nationally significant project,” said a senior IPSCDL official.
The Smart City agency has submitted photographic evidence of the damage along with the police complaint, urging authorities to initiate strict legal action under the Indian Penal Code and other relevant laws related to damage to public property and unauthorized excavation.
IPSCDL has expressed concern over the growing disregard for urban infrastructure and reiterated its commitment to protecting public assets. The agency emphasized that such violations undermine not only the functionality of essential public amenities but also the larger vision of the Smart Cities Mission.
No official response has yet been issued by Goa Natural Gas Private Limited regarding the allegations.
