PANAJI: Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd. (IPSCDL) commemorated World Environment Day with a vibrant tree plantation drive at the location of its upcoming pedestrian walkway project behind the Spaces Building in Patto, Panaji.
The event was led by Mr. Sandip Jacques, IAS, CEO & MD of IPSCDL, accompanied by Mr. Pankaj Rane, Officer on Special Duty (OSD), environmental expert Mr. Miguel Braganza, and architect Mr. Gerard Da Cunha. The IPSCDL project team also actively took part in the planting activities.
To add an educational element, students from People’s High School and Mary Immaculate High School, Panaji, joined the drive with great enthusiasm, planting a diverse range of native and ecologically significant tree species. The varieties planted included Cassia Fistula (Golden Shower Tree), Peltophorum (Copperpod), Lagerstroemia speciosa (locally known as Ferrugenium), Grewia Robusta, Terminalia Chebula (Haritaki), and Terminalia Catappa (Indian Almond).
During the event, Mr. Miguel Braganza engaged with the students, explaining the ecological and medicinal importance of the trees. He emphasized how these species would enhance local biodiversity, improve air quality, and provide shaded, pedestrian-friendly spaces, enriching the future walkway’s environment.
This tree plantation drive represents a key step forward in Panaji’s ongoing efforts to develop a smart, green, and sustainable urban landscape.
