The crime rate in South Goa…
382 serious crimes registered in South Goa from January 1 to June 30; Investigation of 320 cases completed:
Six cases of murder, six cases of attempted murder registered

MARGAO: It may sound strange, but true, from January 1 to June 30, 2021, a total of 382 crimes cases have been registered in the jurisdiction of South Goa Police Station.
And more shockingly, there have been six murder cases in this period, which means there is one murder every month in South Goa.
From the 382 cases, the police have succeeded in solving 320 of these crimes. Also, of the six murder cases, five have been cracked.
However, the police seem to be equally up to the task, with a crime detection rate of 83.76 per cent.
The murder of a goldsmith in Margao, the fatal attack on Anwar Sheikh, a goon from Fatorda, an attack on a young man from Navelim, the deadly attack on Narayan Naik, an RTI activist from Sancoale in Madgaon and the recent shooting at Bogmola.
While all this is happening, South Goa also saw sixteen fraud cases have been registered, and eight of them have been traced.
While this may be new to Goa, eight cases of rioting have also been registered, while five cases of protest without permission have been registered.
South Goa has also seen nine abduction cases in various police stations.
While there has been a rise in the crime rate, there has been an equal rise in deaths due to accidents.
Apart from this, 42 cases of violation of the Indian Penal Code have been registered. The police have succeeded in completing the investigation of 40 cases.
19 cases of rape registered
Besides, six cases of attempted murder have also been registered, and 19 incidents of rape, meaning South Goa reports at least three rape cases every month.
Police have been able to solve 18 of 19 rape cases so far.
However, these statistics still show that women are being abused on a large scale.
The successful investigation of 78 cases of theft
In the last six months, there have been three major theft cases, and all three cases have been solved.
Five burglary cases have been reported in the daytime, and there are 20 cases of burglary at night.
South Goa also saw 33 cases of vehicle theft in various police stations, and only 20 cases have been solved.
Out of the five cases of chain theft, only one case has been registered so far.
Apart from this, 40 other theft cases have been registered, out of which 28 cases have been solved.
