PANAJI: In relation to the case of a job applicant demanding Rs 1 lakh for a contract position in the Department of Information Technology, voice samples of suspended deputy director Siddarth Borker have been provided to the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of the Directorate of Vigilance.
On February 28, the government suspended Borker following the viral social media spread of an audio recording containing the demand for Rs 1 lakh. After receiving a complaint from the department director regarding the matter, the ACB filed a formal complaint against Borker.
Regarding the purported audio recording involving a prospective employee and an IT department representative, law enforcement officials have disclosed that Borker has acknowledged that his voice was heard.
Aside from Borker, the ACB had interrogated selection committee members in relation to the case. According to police sources, Borker is one of the committee’s five members.
There is zero tolerance for corruption, according to IT Minister Rohan Khaunte, who has also requested a comprehensive investigation into the situation. Khaunte had stated that the officer was suspended based on the audio.
The Goa Pradesh Youth Congress demonstrated outside the information technology department, calling for the suspension of the offending officer.
