PANAJI: The State Information Technology Department has issued a stern warning to all telecom service providers and infrastructure companies, directing them to strictly adhere to the new Telecommunication Right of Way (RoW) Rules, 2024. The department cautioned that failure to comply could result in penalties of up to ₹2 crore and imprisonment for up to three years.
In a notice issued to Infrastructure Providers (IP-1) and Internet Service Providers (ISPs), the department has made it mandatory to obtain prior permission from the Directorate of Information Technology, Electronics, and Communications (DITEC) before carrying out any overhead or underground telecom installations. Service providers have also been instructed to declare all existing telecom assets by submitting KML or KMZ files for mapping on the One Map Goa GIS Portal or the GatiShakti Portal, along with valid authorisations for previously laid infrastructure.
Entities lacking the required permissions have been asked to regularise their operations by securing the necessary approvals from DITEC. The IT Department has further warned that unauthorised installations or any damage to critical telecom infrastructure will attract stringent action under the law, including hefty fines and imprisonment.
