Margao: Madganvcho Awaaz and youth leader Prabhav Naik has strongly criticised the State Government’s decision to organise large-scale publicity events at a time when citizens are struggling with rising prices of essential commodities, particularly the latest hike in LPG cylinder prices.
Naik said that when households are finding it difficult to manage basic expenses, the government should prioritise relief for the people instead of spending crores on publicity-driven programmes.
Referring to the Budget speech of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Naik pointed out that the “Sarkar Tumchya Daari” initiative was announced to take governance to the people. “Governance must certainly reach the people, but it should be through efficient and service-oriented administration rather than through grand publicity events across the state at a huge cost to the exchequer,” he said.
Naik also expressed concern over the emerging global situation, noting that the Middle East has once again turned into a war zone, creating uncertainty for thousands of Goans working in the region. He said that if the situation continues, many families in Goa who depend on the earnings of relatives abroad may be forced to cut down on household spending and face financial distress.
In view of these circumstances, Naik said the government should immediately announce strict austerity measures and curtail all avoidable expenditure. Public funds must be utilised with utmost prudence during such uncertain times rather than being spent on publicity-driven programmes.
Naik demanded that the government scrap all such publicity events, including the proposed “Sarkar Tumchya Daari” programme, and divert the funds towards providing relief to the common man and supporting families facing economic uncertainty.
“At a time when people are tightening their belts, the government too must show restraint and focus entirely on public welfare,” Naik added.
