New Delhi: In the aftermath of India’s bold military response under Operation Sindoor, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar issued a clear and powerful message to the international community:
“The world must show zero tolerance for terrorism.”
The statement, posted on social media just hours after Indian armed forces conducted precision strikes across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), underscores New Delhi’s firm stance against cross-border terrorism.
The operation, launched in the early hours of May 7, was a retaliatory response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 25 Indian tourists and a local Kashmiri pony ride operator. Intelligence agencies have linked the perpetrators to Pakistan-based terror groups.
Under Operation Sindoor, coordinated air and missile strikes were carried out by the Army, Navy, and Air Force, targeting nine terror camps used by Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and Hizbul Mujahideen. The operation aimed to dismantle the infrastructure enabling repeated cross-border infiltrations and attacks.
India has long accused Pakistan of providing safe havens to terrorist organisations, and this operation marks one of its most significant military responses in recent years. The government emphasized that the strikes were measured, precise, and avoided civilian and military Pakistani infrastructure, reinforcing its claim of a non-escalatory posture focused on counterterrorism.
Diplomatic Outreach Ahead of the Operation
In the days leading up to the strikes, Jaishankar engaged in high-level diplomatic outreach to several non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), including Algeria, Greece, Sierra Leone, Guyana, Panama, Slovenia, and Somalia. During these conversations, he reportedly conveyed India’s determination to bring the perpetrators of the Pahalgam massacre to justice and reiterated its appeal for global solidarity against terrorism.
These diplomatic efforts were particularly significant as Pakistan currently holds a non-permanent seat on the UNSC, making the messaging from India especially timely and strategic.
As Operation Sindoor reverberates through international corridors of power, India has made it clear: terrorism, in any form and from any quarter, will be met with swift and decisive action—and the world must unite in that resolve.
