New Delhi: India declared their innings at 518 for 5 on Day 2 of the second Test against the West Indies in Delhi, with captain Shubman Gill unbeaten on 129, marking his 10th Test century and his first on home soil as India’s skipper.
Gill played a crucial role in anchoring the innings, building a significant 102-run partnership with young wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel, who scored a well-made 44 before being dismissed. The morning session witnessed a rare setback when opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was run out for a brilliant 175 due to a mix-up with Gill, but all-rounder Nitish Reddy’s valuable 43 runs helped maintain India’s strong position.
For the West Indies, spinner Jomel Warrican impressed with three wickets, while captain Roston Chase managed to take one scalp.
India’s commanding total puts them in a strong position as the match progresses, with Gill’s leadership and batting performance drawing comparisons to former captain Virat Kohli’s achievements.
