PANAJI: After a thorough search, the 38-year-old casino employee Javed Sadekar’s lifeless body was discovered floating in the River Mandovi early on Saturday morning.
Javed was hurled into the river in the Thursday night accident, which happened after his oncoming bike and a rent-a-cab collided on a bridge. His body was discovered drifting close to the casino, across from the Old Secretariat.
Ankit Triparti, the accused offender from Odisha, was discovered to be intoxicated in addition to driving the rental automobile carelessly. He was arrested by Panaji police on suspicion of culpable homicide and drunk driving.
Sections 504 (culpable murder), 279 (rash driving), 336 (endangering life or personal safety of others), and 185 (drunk driving) of the Motor Vehicles Act are the grounds for the Federal Investigation Report that has been filed against Ankit.
According to eye-witness accounts, Sadekar was heading towards Panaji while the rent-a-cab car driven by an Odisha native Ankit Tripathi was headed in the opposite direction but on the wrong side of the road.
“The bike and the car crashed head on. The impact of the collision was such that the rider who got flung from his bike bounced from the dashboard of the car and plunged down into the river,” one eye-witness account said.
Sadekar, according to sources, was an employee of one of the casinos operating in the Mandovi river.
