CHIMBEL: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant declared that the government would seize the properties of the accused involved in the multi-crore jobs-for-cash scam in order to start the process of returning crores of rupees to the victims that were stolen under the guise of government jobs.
No one would be spared, regardless of their political membership, Sawant told reporters on the fringes of an event. He pleaded with the opposition not to use this as a chance to disparage the BJP and its leaders.
“There will be no one spared…Regardless of their political affiliation, we take this seriously and will see that the cases are handled logically,” Sawant stated, adding that government employees who participated in the scheme would be fired.
The chief minister added that the government will investigate ways to reimburse the victims of the scam. “All of the accused’s properties will be seized, and the money will be refunded, instead of going through legal proceedings,” he stated.
According to Sawant, 18 people—including a government employee—have been arrested in connection with the jobs-for-cash fraud to date. “There will be more arrests in the future. Whoever the accused names will be looked into and charged.
“I urge everyone to come forward and lodge grievances…All of the accused in these situations should be taken into custody, he stated.
Sawant responded, “There are five lakh members of the BJP in Goa…that does not mean…” in response to questions concerning the involvement of certain BJP employees, including the arrest of a local women leader from his constituency in the scandal.
