PORVORIM: A gold finance company’s declaration that it will not give the pledged jewelry to Deepashree Mahato, also known as Gawas, an accused person in the cash-for-job fraud, has been approved by the Bombay High Court in Goa.
The financing business was also given permission by the court to accept whatever payments the accused could make on her loan.
The court further decided that the Ponda police must file a suitable application for orders pertaining to the release of the gold with the proper court if the officers persist on doing so.
In order to get clarification on the situation, the financial business had gone to court. According to the scam’s investigation, the victims were either the accused’s acquaintances or relatives who were looking for long-term government employment for their family members.
The victims lost their life savings as a result of believing the fraudulent claims of employment stability. The accused allegedly used the funds to finance extravagant lives, buying expensive automobiles and gold decorations.
When Pooja Naik, a resident of Old Goa, was charged with defrauding multiple individuals of crores of rupees by posing as a government employee, the scam—which has since expanded throughout the state—was exposed.
Cases were then brought against Uma Patil, Sunita Shashikant Pawaskar, Priya Yadav, Shruti Prabhugaonkar, and Deepashree Gawas.
