Panaji: A 50-year-old scooter rider lost his life after a head-on collision with a Kadamba bus under the flyover at Goa Velha junction on Sunday morning.
According to Agacaim Police Station, the incident occurred on February 15 at around 8:05 am. The complaint was lodged by HC Vinit Kurtikar (Buckle No. 7110) on behalf of the State.
Police informed that the accused, Sankesh Bhosle (51), a resident of Aldona, Bardez, was driving a Kadamba bus bearing registration number GA-03-X-0496.
He allegedly drove the bus at a high speed in a rash and negligent manner, without due care and caution, thereby endangering human life.
Upon reaching under the flyover at Goa Velha junction, the bus reportedly swerved extremely towards the right side into the opposite lane meant for oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a Maestro scooter (GA-06-J-3277), which was proceeding from Siridao towards Goa Velha market.
The scooter rider, identified as Prashant Bagkar (50), a resident of Bogda near Alto Desterro Church, Mormugao, sustained grievous injuries in the crash. He later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College casualty ward.
The accused driver was arrested on February 15 at 6:05 pm and subsequently released on bail at 7:56 pm the same day.
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Rushikesh Raikar of Agacaim Police Station.
