CHIMBEL: Kadamba bus that was traveling from Ponda to Panaji overturned at Chimbel junction due to break failure.
Eight passengers and two crew members were rescued from the crash earlier today, while three other passengers had minor injuries and were taken to GMC for medical attention.
The driver, who also sustained minor injuries, stated that brake failure was the reason for the collision.
“The brake pedals gave way as we descended the slope. To avoid hitting other vehicles, I veered to the left. The bus overturned due to the soft dirt by the side of the road, according to the driver.
The scene was reported by the bus conductor, who was seated at the back. He said, “There was a typical traffic block, and the bus was moving slowly downhill.” Abruptly, the bus lost direction and gradually plummeted into a ditch excavated for building purposes.
The motorist managed to avoid colliding with oncoming cars despite the volume of traffic on the road.” He added that the bus had received routine maintenance at the depot.
Emergency Services (FES), police, and firefighters arrived on the spot.
This is Goa’s third occurrence of the day. A rental taxi and a truck had earlier crashed close to the Arlem junction in Fatorda, and a second car had gone off the road close to the Rawanfond bridge in Margao. In the latter instance, the car’s driver managed to escape with only minor wounds.
