CORTALIM: On Wednesday, the Aam Aadmi Party’s Cortalim candidate Alina Saldanha said that the Cortalim Kala Bhavan project will be completed soon.
While addressing the media, Saldanha said, “Kala Bhavan had been lying there incomplete for several years. We faced many difficulties in starting the construction because there were so many regularities involved. However, we were able to start construction.”
She said, “Kala Bhavan didn’t have a parent department. We are nearing completion of Kala Bhavan; once it is complete, it will be handed over to the Art and Culture department”.
Besides housing a Dramatics college, Kala Bhavan will offer music and painting classes that will benefit the people of Cortalim and South Goa.
She further said, “Earlier, the project looked difficult as Kala Bhavan was started without a parent department. That is the reason it took us almost one and half years to find somebody. Nobody wanted to take responsibility. Even the Art and Culture Minister refused to take the responsibility and asked to complete the project and handover to them”.
Adding she said, “In response to the request of late Manohar Parrikar, I decided to take up the project. He is the one who asked GSIDC to take over the project. We have completed 80% of the remaining work. The flooring, walls, painting, electricity, and all other necessary work had to be done. We believe in quality work and will complete this project soon”.
