PANAJI: The Goa Police clarified that activist Rama Kankonkar has not implicated any politician in his statement regarding the attack on him last month, while stressing that the investigation into the case continues.
North Goa Superintendent of Police (SP) Rahul Gupta said at a press conference that the police have arrested the accused in connection with the assault, and Kankonkar’s testimony remains central to the ongoing probe.
“So far, he has not named any politician, but our investigation is continuing from all angles,” SP Gupta said, adding that the victim’s statement provides a first-hand account of the assault, descriptions of the attackers, and the sequence of events.
The SP noted that by corroborating Kankonkar’s testimony with other evidence, the police aim to build a strong case for court proceedings.
Kankonkar’s statement was recorded on October 2 at Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, where he continues to receive treatment for injuries sustained in the September 19 attack near Kamakshi Hotel, Caranzalem.
The statement reportedly identifies one of the assailants as Minguel, who allegedly attempted to attack Kankonkar twice earlier this year at Agassaim. Kankonkar has also indicated that he could identify the other attackers if produced for a test identification parade.
