CANACONA: Karnataka Excise apprehended a Bangalore bound truck transporting 120 liquor (IMFL) Cartoons disguised as Medical Waste at Majali check-post.
The Mapusa (Goa) to Bangalore bound Container –truck was intercepted by Karnataka Excise stationed at the border with Goa at Majali checkout at about 1 am on Wednesday.
The container truck has already crossed Goa’s Polem Checkout border when questioned about the contents in the truck by Karnataka Excise sleuths on Majali checkout were reportedly told that it is transporting medical waste to Bangalore.
Suspecting foul play the excise sleuths swiftly began to verify the contents and after initially finding few boxes with some medical contents, discovered a large number of liquor boxes (cartoons) are also stacked in the container.
The Container –truck along with two occupants including a Driver and co-driver were detained immediately and after a thorough check was taken, recovered 120 IMFL different brands Cartoons. The Excise officials have taken up to valuation process.
Questions are raised as to how such high number of liquor consignments and how excise officials at the State’s border posts are functioning, thus large liquor consignments are leaving the State’s border without proper receipts/permits, causing huge losses to the State exchequer.
