CALANGUTE: A 39-year-old man from Koppal, Karnataka, tragically drowned in the swimming pool of a private villa in Tiwaiwada, Calangute, in the early hours of Monday.
The deceased, Abdul Samad, was employed at a hotel in Calangute and had been attending a birthday celebration hosted by the hotel owner for his relatives. All staff members had reportedly been invited to the gathering, which took place at the villa.
According to preliminary information, the incident occurred around 4 a.m. when Abdul jumped into the pool for a swim. When he failed to surface after some time, fellow employees pulled him from the water and rushed him to the Candolim Primary Health Centre, where he was declared brought dead.
Upon being alerted, the Calangute police conducted an inquest and have sent the body to the Goa Medical College (GMC) for a post-mortem examination. The case is currently under investigation, led by PSI Dinesh Kanolkar, to determine the circumstances leading to the drowning.
