CANACONA: A Karnataka State Transport (ST) bus met with an accident on the Gulem section of NH66 on Sunday evening, leaving nine passengers injured, including two with serious head injuries.
The interstate bus, bearing registration number KA31 F1587, was en route to Kumta from Margao when it veered to the extreme left around 6:30 PM and rammed into a roadside iron signboard. The impact shattered the windowpanes on the left side of the bus, causing shards of glass to injure several passengers.
Emergency responders shifted the injured to the Community Health Centre in Chaudi. From there, some were moved to South Goa District Hospital (SGDH) in Margao, while two critically injured passengers were later referred to Goa Medical College (GMC) in Bambolim for advanced treatment.
Canacona police reached the spot promptly and conducted a panchnama. Authorities stated that a detailed investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident on the straight stretch of NH66. The bus driver has also been sent for a medical examination.
Meanwhile, some uninjured passengers managed to board another bus heading toward Karwar later in the evening.
