CHANDOR: A 35-year-old man from Karwar, identified as Siddesh Yeshwant Gaundi, died by suicide after jumping onto the tracks in front of an oncoming train between Chandor and Margao on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Vasco Railway Police, the incident occurred around 12:37 pm and was reported by the Train Manager of the MRHER train to Vasco Station authorities at 1:10 pm. The body was found near the down line tracks during an inspection by the police.
Investigations by PI Amarnath Passi and statements from the loco pilot and train manager confirmed that the deceased had jumped from the railway overbridge before being hit by the train.
The body was sent for postmortem, where the Police Surgeon confirmed the cause of death as “damage to head, chest, abdomen and spine due to blunt force impact.” The remains were later handed over to the family for final rites.
A case of unnatural death under Section 194 of the BNSS has been registered at Vasco Railway Police Station, and PSI Yogesh Gaonkar of Quepem Police Station is conducting further inquiry.
