PANAJI: The final league round of the Goa Premier Division League began with intense action as teams battled for dominance on the opening day. Strong performances with both bat and ball set the tone, with standout contributions shaping the day’s outcomes.
At the NAPEX ground in Sankhali, Salgaocar Cricket Club posted an imposing total after declaring their first innings at 351 for 8. Captain Yash Kasvankar led from the front with a superb 121 off 155 deliveries, striking 14 boundaries and two sixes. He received valuable support from Shaantanu Nevagi, who made 49, and Azaan Thota, who added 44. Geno Sports Club managed to hold steady late in the day, reaching 11 without loss in response.
Meanwhile, at the Bandodkar ground, Panjim Gymkhana struggled against disciplined bowling and were dismissed for 143. Soham Panvalkar top scored with 51. Dempo Cricket Club’s bowling unit was effective, with Mohit Yadav picking up four wickets and Abhinav Tejrana claiming three. In reply, Dempo closed the day at 137 for 3, just six runs behind. Captain Snehal Kauthankar remained unbeaten on 60, while Aditya Kota provided solid support with an unbeaten 42, putting their side in a strong position.
At the GCA Academy ground in Porvorim, Chowgule Sports Club dominated proceedings. Shubham Tari delivered an exceptional bowling performance, taking six wickets for 38 runs to bowl out Margao Cricket Club for 101. Chowgule then responded confidently with 246 in their first innings, with Gauresh Kambli scoring 50, Shubham Desai contributing 49, and Darshan Misal adding 46. Margao began their second innings cautiously, reaching 5 without loss at stumps but still trailing significantly.
With commanding performances across venues, Dempo, Chowgule and Salgaocar have all gained early control, setting up an exciting finish to the league stage.
