Canacona: Former Deputy Chief Minister and ex-Quepem MLA Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar has welcomed the creation of Goa’s proposed third district comprising the eastern talukas of Dharbandora, Sanguem, Quepem, and Canacona. However, he opposed the reported move to set up the district headquarters in Curchorem, asserting that Quepem is the most suitable location.
Speaking to the media at Barcem on Sunday, Kavlekar said, “We, along with a Quepem BJP delegation, met Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant at his Sankhali residence and submitted that Quepem, being a long-standing sub-district with an SDO, SDPO, court and all key administrative offices, is best suited to serve as the headquarters for the new district.”
He added that Quepem’s central location in relation to the other three talukas makes it the most logical administrative hub. “The Chief Minister has primarily agreed to our request. Everyone should be satisfied with this assurance,” Kavlekar said.
Kavlekar made the remarks on the sidelines of the inauguration of donation coupons for the Sarvajanik Shree Ganeshotsav Mandal at Pisonem-Barcem.
The Mandal launched its Rs. 200 donation coupons in the presence of ZP members Khushal Velip (Barcem), Shanu Velip (Khola), Barcem Sarpanch Mohan Gaonkar, Mandal president Shrikant Gaonkar, and others. A total of 19,000 coupons have been printed, with prizes including two four-wheelers, ten two-wheelers, refrigerators, and TVs.
