PONDA: Kavlem Panchayat becomes the first to set up a Wet Garbage treatment Plant at Ponda Taluka.
Speaking on occasion Power Minister Sudin Dhavlikar said Every person generates waste and garbage, so setting up STPs, and Garbage Treatment Plant in every City and Villages is a need of hour to maintain the surrounding and water bodies clean which are polluted due to waste dumped into due to lack of proper facilities for waste treatment.
He appreciated Kavlem Panchayat for taking such initiative in maintaining the village clean with proper garbage management.
Speaking on occasion, Sarpanch Rajesh Kavlekar said Kavlem Panchayat became the first to set up such a plant in Ponda Taluka at Panchayat Level. He said some people were strongly opposing the garbage treatment Plant in Gramsabha, and for the past several months, Panchayat could not install its plant.
“We have almost decided to stop the collection of garbage after our MRF Facility was set on fire by people opposing garbage plant; however, with the support of Local MLA and Power Minister Sudin Dhavlikar, the dream to set up Wet Garbage Plant came to reality. Power Minister assured all support to commissions the plant,” he said.
He said Kavlem Panchayat generates around 1200 kg of wet garbage while the Plant treatment Capacity is 1.5 tonnes per day. He told the diaper, sanitary pads, and hazardous waste would be burnt in an incinerator. After 40 days, manure will be generated, and already there is demand for it. He said dry plastic waste is sent to Saligao Plant. He urged the people to segregate wet garbage and handover to workers collecting garbage.
It may be recalled that a month ago some unknown persons set on fire the Kavelm Panchayat Material Recovery Facility(MRF) cum Garbage Segregation Centre but not bothering to it within one Month Time not only erected the MRF shed but also installed and commissioned today 1.5 tone per day capacity wet Garbage Treatment Plant at the hands of Power Minister Sudin Dhavlikar, Kavlem Sarpanch Rajesh Kavlekar, Mhadavrao Dhavlikar Trust Director Mithil Dhavlikar, Bandora Sarpanch Rajesh Naik, Durbhat Agapur Sarpanch Saroja Naik and others.
The shed damaged in the fire was erected with the cooperation of Madhavrao Dhavlikar Trust, costing around Rs 3.5 lakh. At the same time, the wet garbage Treatment Plant, including the incinerator, was set up, costing Rs 48 lakh through the 14 Finance Commission.
