PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today has urged Goans to keep the Indian Flag as their display picture on social media platforms from August 2 as a part of the Har Ghat Tiranga initiative.
“I urge Goans to keep the Indian Flag as their display picture on social media from August 2 onwards. I also appeal to people to participate in the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign and hoist the National Flag on their houses from August 13 till August 16,” said CM Sawant.
He further said that Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav will be celebrated in a big way in Goa.
“On August 6, the PM will chair a meeting at Prime minister Bhavan to decide on various programs for Azadi ka Amrut,” he added.
Sawant further informed that 71 freedom fighters who sacrificed their life for Goa’s liberation will be given a certificate of Honor on August 15.
“Goa Handicrafts department will make one lakh flags on occasion,” he said.
CM Sawant stated that now people need not bring down the hoisted flags at 6pm as was the earlier mandate by the Government as the Central Government has permitted the hoisting of flags throughout the period and removed the 6pm clause.
CM Sawant informed that the flags will be available at stationery shops and other stores across Goa from tomorrow onwards for the initiative.
The Government of India has approved the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav to celebrate 75 years of India’s Independence.
Goa government also wants people in the state to hoist flags and has requested government employees, civic authorities, educational institutions and private sector entities to ensure maximum participation.
