CANACONA: In an unexpected yet warmly received visit, Kerala Governor and Goa’s son-of-the-soil, Rajendra Arlekar, made a surprise stop in Canacona on Tuesday, accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Arlekar.
The Governor began his visit with a spiritual stop at the Nirakar Temple in Macem, where he offered prayers and sought the blessings of the Nirakar deity. Following the temple visit, he proceeded to Loliem-Polem, where he inspected the land allotted by the local Communidade for the proposed Sainik School—a prestigious educational project earmarked for the village.
During a stop at Damodar Vidyalaya in Loliem, Governor Arlekar addressed members of the local community, highlighting the importance of the Sainik School project. He noted that the institution will serve as a landmark development in Canacona, offering disciplined and quality education to future generations.
The visit continued to Adarsh Gram Amone, where the Governor was received at the newly constructed bungalow of Goa Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar. The Speaker’s son greeted the Governor with a bouquet of flowers, marking a warm welcome. The visit was followed by a lunch hosted by the Speaker’s family at their residence in Amone-Poinguinim.
The Governor’s presence drew several dignitaries and community leaders, including Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar and his wife, Poinguinim Sarpanch Savita Tawadkar, BJP Mandal President (Canacona) Prabhakar Gaonkar, Block Secretary Diwakar Pagi, former BJP Block President Vishal Desai, BJP South Goa General Secretary Mahesh Naik, and several officials attached to the Speaker’s office.
Also present were faculty members and staff of Balram Residential High School, Amone, as well as other local residents and well-wishers.
Governor Arlekar’s low-key but meaningful visit underscored his continued connection with his roots and affirmed support for educational and community development initiatives in Canacona.
