Canacona: Canacona police have booked a car driver from Kerala after his vehicle allegedly rammed into an electric scooter carrying three persons at Maxem (Loliem) in Canacona, leaving all three riders seriously injured.
According to police, the accident occurred near God’s Gift Hall at Maxem on NH-66 when an Innova car driven by Bijo Georg, a resident of Kottayam, Kerala, was proceeding from Canacona towards Karwar.
Police said the driver was allegedly driving in a rash and negligent manner and attempted to overtake a vehicle ahead, moving onto the wrong side of the road. During the manoeuvre, the car collided with an oncoming electric scooter carrying excess pillion riders.
The scooter riders — Rajesh Pagi, Divya Pagi and Dashva Pagi, all residents of Galgibaga in Canacona — were travelling from Polem towards Canacona when the accident took place. The impact caused them to fall onto the road, resulting in grievous injuries.
Reports said at least two of the injured suffered severe leg injuries. All three were later shifted to the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH), Margao for treatment.
Police further stated that the car driver allegedly stopped at the spot briefly but fled along with the occupants of the vehicle without providing medical assistance to the injured or informing the police.
Canacona police have registered a case under Sections 281 and 125(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 and Section 134(a)(b) of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Further investigation is being carried out by ASI Rohidas Gaonkar of Canacona Police Station.
