New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched a strong political attack on the two major alliances in Kerala, stating that the state has been caught between “two selfish parties” for decades. Addressing a gathering ahead of the upcoming Kerala Legislative Assembly Election 2026, he accused both the ruling Left Democratic Front and the opposition United Democratic Front of prioritising vote bank politics over development.
The Prime Minister said the Bharatiya Janata Party is committed to transforming the state and building what he described as a “Viksit Keralam.” He alleged that the two alliances have alternated power for years without delivering meaningful progress for the people. According to him, the political pattern has continued for decades, with each front taking turns to govern while fundamental issues remain unresolved.
Accusing both alliances of corruption, Modi claimed that the state has witnessed repeated instances of financial irregularities and mismanagement. He said that neither side takes action against the other despite allegations of scams, suggesting that both have been complicit in protecting each other’s interests. The Prime Minister asserted that a government led by the BJP would initiate investigations into such cases and ensure that the truth behind the alleged scams is brought to light.
Modi also said that both political alliances are increasingly worried about the BJP’s growing presence in the state. According to him, leaders from both fronts have been accusing each other of secretly supporting the BJP, which he described as a sign of their political anxiety.
The Prime Minister further criticised the political strategies of the Congress and Left parties, stating that they often work together in several parts of the country while presenting themselves as rivals in Kerala. He urged voters to recognise this contradiction and make informed decisions during the upcoming election.
Highlighting the issue of unemployment, Modi said the lack of industrial growth in the state has limited job opportunities for young people. He promised that the BJP would focus on development and economic growth if given the opportunity to govern.
Polling for the Kerala Legislative Assembly Election 2026 will take place in a single phase on April 9, with the counting of votes scheduled for May 4.
