MAPUSA: In a significant development, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Land Grabbing under Goa Police has arrested one of the primary accused in a high-profile land grabbing case registered at Mapusa Police Station.
According to officials, the case (Crime No. 148/2020) involves fraudulent mutation and illegal possession of Communidade land in Succorro village. The complaint, originally filed by Mr. Eurico Mascarenhas, alleges that several individuals conspired to impersonate a deceased man and forge documents to unlawfully claim ownership of valuable land.
The accused have been identified as Mr. Vithu Nagvekar, Mrs. Alisha Nagvekar, Mr. Ranjeet Salgaonkar (then Joint Mamlatdar-II, Bardez), Mr. Rohan Kaskar (then Administrator of Communidade of North Zone, Mapusa), and Mr. Agnelo Lobo (Attorney of Communidade of Serula). The group is accused of forging documents in the name of late Madhukar Vithurai Nagvekar to secure a fraudulent No Objection Certificate (NOC) and alter official land records.
The disputed land, located under Survey Nos. 221/1, 222/1, and 233/1 in Succorro, measures approximately 69,675 square meters. Investigators claim the accused succeeded in deleting the name of the original owner and illegally transferring ownership into their own names, thereby defrauding both the Communidade of Serula and the concerned government authorities.
On Monday, May 19, the SIT arrested Mr. Vithu Nagvekar, 48, son of the late Madhukar Nagvekar and resident of Paithan, Salvador do Mundo, Bardez, in connection with the case.
Further investigations are ongoing as authorities continue to unravel the extent of the conspiracy and the involvement of officials in the alleged fraudulent transaction.
