PORVORIM: Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte has recommended using of Multipurpose Cyclone Shelter (MPCS) & Fire Station (FS) at Porvorim as COVID Care Centre.
“It is with much concern over the spread of the Mutant Virus that I bring certain constructive suggestions to the urgent attention of your High Office,” Khaunte wrote to Chief Minister.
He says Goa is a small State with a relatively High Positivity and Mortality Rate.
Khaunte added, in addition to the COVID crises, we as a State have faced the onslaught of the infamous Cyclone ‘Tauktae’.
“Along with the State, my Porvorim Constituency felt the thud of this cyclone with fallen trees at every nook and corner, damaged electrical poles and continued power failure extending to over 48 hours. I have personally witnessed the Fire and Electricity Department working tirelessly to restore electricity in my Constituency and that is what made me realize that we are helpless with regard to the Fire Services! Unexpectedly, at this pressing hour, when Administrative support was vital, the Administration failed to provide requisite support at Panchayat levels,” he charged.
Now, he continued, with the news of the forthcoming Third Wave and the corresponding Task Force formed by you for the Formulation and Implementation of the strategy to tackle the Third Wave of COVID, we expect a higher level of precautionary measures to be taken.
“To tackle the above issues, I strongly recommend that the Multipurpose Cyclone Shelter (MPCS) & Fire Station (FS) at Porvorim be completed on priority which otherwise is due for completion on 31 May 2021. In this regard, I take this platform to share my suggestions, which I strongly believe, if implemented, would help change the mortality logistics in the State of Goa during the forthcoming Third Wave,” he said.
He suggested opening the Fire Station at Porvorim with all infrastructural facilities, vehicles and machinery which will ensure the readiness of the Constituency to tackle any calamities or like events.
“Conversion of the Multipurpose Cyclone Shelter (MPCS) into a Specialized COVID Care Centre with a separate Paediatric Unit/ Wing. The Centre should be equipped with necessary infrastructure, staff, medical professionals and medicines which will ensure that all medical emergencies in and around the Constituency can be attended with minimum turnaround time,” he said.
He said these facilities can be provided by the Government or in the alternative, the same can be sourced through the CSR funds of private companies. This will additionally ensure that the Government or Health Department of the State are not over burdened with area wise expenses.
