PORVORIM: Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte on Thursday rubbished reports of him meeting BJP Observer Devendra Fadnavis, stating that the reports are aimed at destabilising Opposition unity.
Rumours were rife on Tuesday that Independent MLA Khaunte and Congress’ Curtoirm MLA Alexio Reginald Lourenco met Fadnavis in a starred hotel in Panaji.
While Reginald has brushed aside the rumours saying he had gone to meet a poll strategist and not Fadnavis, Khaunte says he has never met Fadnavis on that day.
“Rumours of myself meeting Shri Fadnavis are aimed at destabilising the Opposition unity,” he said.
He stated that every Like-Minded force must see through this devilish rumour to divide and weaken the Opposition by triggering suspicion and one-upmanship in the Opposition.
“Luckily, Goan People have realised the need for a change, and it’s now up to the Opposition to unitedly face such cheap divisive tactics with a Like-Minded & Progressive approach to strengthen the People’s resolve of dismantling this Corrupt Government,” he said.
Reports suggested that the BJP leader wanted Khaunte and Lourenco to contest independence so that they could later support the BJP to form the government.
Interestingly, Lourenco is with the Congress and has been promoted as working president of the party after rumours of him joining Aam Aadmi Party.
Khaunte, on the other hand, is set to join Congress after his term ends.
