New Delhi: The fifth edition of the Khelo India University Games (KIUG) is set to be held in Jaipur, Rajasthan, in November 2025, marking a significant moment for university-level sports in India. With over 4,000 student-athletes from more than 200 universities expected to participate, the event is poised to be one of the largest university sports competitions in the country. The Games will be jointly hosted by Poornima University and Rajasthan University, showcasing Jaipur as a new hub for national sporting excellence. As part of the Government of India’s continued push to strengthen grassroots and youth sports, the KIUG serves as a vital platform for under-25 athletes to compete at a high level and be scouted for national and international opportunities.
Announcing the event, Union Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Mansukh Mandaviya emphasized the importance of the Games in building India’s next generation of sporting talent. “The Khelo India University Games provide young athletes with an essential platform to prove their mettle. After the successful Khelo India Youth Games held in Bihar earlier this year, we are excited to bring the university edition to Rajasthan. This will be a showcase of energy, skill, and emerging sports stars,” he said. The Minister added that across the world, university athletes dominate major multi-sport events, and India is steadily building towards that global standard.
The 2025 edition will feature at least 20 sports disciplines, mirroring the structure of previous Games. The KIUG has consistently grown in stature, offering not just medals and glory, but also long-term career prospects for talented athletes. With full logistical and technical backing from the Sports Authority of India and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Jaipur Games are expected to be professionally managed and widely broadcast.
The previous edition of the Games in 2024 was co-hosted by seven northeastern states, marking a historic first for the region. Chandigarh University emerged as overall champions, with Lovely Professional University and Guru Nanak Dev University finishing second and third respectively. Over 4,500 athletes competed in 20 disciplines, with 770 medals awarded across the board, showcasing the vast sporting talent spread across India’s universities.
With preparations now underway, Jaipur is gearing up to host the country’s most promising young athletes. From swimming and athletics to wrestling, badminton, and team sports, the KIUG 2025 will not only celebrate competition but also foster a sense of unity, resilience, and aspiration among India’s youth. As India eyes Olympic success in the coming years, platforms like the Khelo India University Games are laying the foundation for future champions.
