New Delhi: Cricket Australia has clarified that Cameron Green is currently recovering from a lower back injury, responding to questions raised after the allrounder did not bowl in Kolkata Knight Riders’ defeat to Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League 2026 clash at Wankhede Stadium.
Green, the most expensive overseas signing in the history of the league’s auction, came under scrutiny after failing to deliver with the ball in the high scoring match where KKR were unable to defend a total of 224. The situation sparked debate about the team’s decision to invest heavily in an allrounder who could not bowl during the game.
After the match, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane was asked about Green’s absence from the bowling attack. Responding briefly, Rahane indicated that the matter should be directed to Cricket Australia, suggesting that the national board may have advised the player to avoid bowling.
The Australian cricket board later confirmed that the 24 year old allrounder is dealing with a lower back issue that requires him to temporarily stay away from bowling. Officials said the injury is currently being managed and that Green is gradually rebuilding his bowling workload while in India.
According to the board, the recovery process is expected to take around 10 to 12 days before he resumes bowling duties. It also stated that the franchise management had been fully informed about the player’s condition and recovery plan.
Green made his debut appearance for KKR in the match and batted at number three, scoring 18 runs off 10 deliveries before being dismissed. Despite posting a competitive total of 220 for four, the three time champions struggled with the ball as Mumbai Indians successfully chased the target in 19.1 overs for a six wicket victory.
During the match, KKR relied on six bowlers including Vaibhav Arora, Varun Chakaravarthy, Kartik Tyagi, debutant Blessing Muzarabani, Sunil Narine and Anukul Roy, but none were able to contain the opposition batting lineup.
