Rahul completed his second Test century in India on Friday (October 3) by taking a single on the fifth ball of the 65th over.
Ahmedabad: Opener KL Rahul ended a nine-year wait for his second Test century in India, reaching the milestone on Day 2 of the first Test against the West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Friday (October 3).
Rahul brought up his century with a single off the fifth ball of the 65th over, taking 190 deliveries to reach the three-figure mark. His innings featured 12 crisp boundaries and anchored India’s first innings after a solid start.
This is Rahul’s second Test hundred on home soil, coming 3,211 days after his first, which was a career-best 199 against England at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai in December 2016. The gap is the longest for any Indian batter between two home Test centuries, surpassing Ravichandran Ashwin’s 2,655-day wait between 2013 and 2021.
The right-hander built key partnerships to steady India’s innings adding 68 runs for the opening wicket with Yashasvi Jaiswal (36 off 54) and later stitching a 98-run stand for the third wicket with skipper Shubman Gill, who scored a composed 50 off 100 balls.
Rahul’s knock underlined his return to form in red-ball cricket and provided India with a strong platform as they looked to dominate the West Indies in the series opener.
