New Delhi: Indian batter KL Rahul reached a significant milestone on Day 2 of the second Test against West Indies, becoming the seventh Indian to score 2000 runs in the World Test Championship (WTC). With this achievement, Rahul joins Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Rishabh Pant in an elite group of Indian players who have crossed the 2000-run mark in WTC matches. Pant currently leads the Indian charts with 2731 runs. Globally, England’s Joe Root tops the WTC list with 6080 runs, followed by Australia’s Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne.
Rahul looked in fine touch, scoring 38 before a deceptive delivery from left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican led to his stumping by keeper Tevin Imlach. Earlier, Rahul had impressed with a six over deep mid-wicket off spinner Khary Pierre and five crisp boundaries, showcasing his signature attacking flair. Despite falling short of a century, his innings reflected elegance and control, particularly with a textbook backfoot punch through covers.
Opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal contributed a patient 40, blending caution with aggression as he attacked spinners with well-timed shots, including a notable sweep off Roston Chase. Meanwhile, Sai Sudharsan supported the innings with 16 runs, hitting three stylish boundaries.
India ended the morning session at 94 for 1, with the opening pair building a solid 58-run partnership. Rahul’s milestone underscores his growing consistency in WTC encounters and adds another feather to India’s formidable batting lineup.
