Panaji: Renowned businessman of Mangaluru-Karnataka Michael D’Souza recently released the Konkani drama book ‘Kofra’ written by Sanjay Borkar.
The program was held at St Aloysius College, Mangaluru. Melvyn Rodrigues, convener of the Konkani Advisory Board of Sahitya Akademi, Walter Nandalike, noted writer H M Pernal and others were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion Michael D’Souza said that Konkani is the rich language and connects the Konkani-speaking regions. “More and more writers, and lyricists should contribute to Konkani literature and music. This will help us protect our language,” he said.
Melvyn Rodrigues congratulated the writer for contributing Konkani drama in the Konkani literature. “
Sanjay Borkar has seven books to his credit, including one children’s short story in English and Marathi poetry. He has also contributed in the Music field by producing music albums and writing songs for musicians from Mangaluru and Goa.
Sanjay Borkar said that he chose the subject of ‘Kofra’, a parallel bank run in the villages which is on the verge of extinction, to describe how the system was used earlier.
