KOLKATA: In a significant development in the South Calcutta Law College rape case, the survivor has expressed satisfaction with the ongoing police investigation, her lawyer informed the court during the latest hearing. The division bench of Justices Soumen Sen and Smita Das De took note of the statement and formally recorded it in the court order.
“The Advocate-on-Record for the victim has submitted that the survivor is satisfied with the progress of the investigation so far,” the court noted, as reported by Bar and Bench. The Bench also reviewed the police case diary and a sealed progress report, which was subsequently shared in scanned form with the victim’s legal counsel.
The statement from the survivor comes amid growing public scrutiny over the handling of sexual assault cases in West Bengal, with several PILs filed demanding an independent, court-monitored probe into the incident.
The case pertains to the alleged rape of a first-year student on June 25, inside the security guard room of South Calcutta Law College. A medical report from a government hospital has reportedly corroborated the survivor’s account.
So far, the Kolkata Police have arrested four individuals in connection with the incident — Manojit Mishra, Promit Mukherjee, Zaid Ahmed, and the college’s security guard. According to the police, Mishra allegedly raped the student, while the others filmed the act to blackmail her.
Mishra has also been linked to the youth wing of the ruling Trinamool Congress, further intensifying political debate surrounding the case.
While the case continues to be monitored closely, the survivor’s statement acknowledging the responsiveness of the investigating officers offers a brief moment of reassurance in a case that has captured statewide attention.
