CANACONA: Youth social worker and former councillor of the Canacona Municipal Council, Shubham Komarpant, has petitioned SIDCGL Chairman and MLA Sankalp Amonkar to set up a Sewerage Treatment Plant in Canacona to address the rising sewerage load in the taluka.
In a memorandum submitted to Amonkar, Komarpant stated that the sewerage burden is increasing with the growth of tourism-related infrastructure, including large hotels, resorts and residential projects. He warned that untreated discharge from such developments is contributing to pollution of the groundwater table and rivers in Canacona.
Komarpant urged the Sewerage and Infrastructural Development Corporation of Goa Limited (SIDCGL) to take up the project at the earliest to prevent further environmental damage and support planned urban growth in the region.
SIDCGL Chairman Sankalp Amonkar is learnt to have responded positively and assured that the matter would be taken into consideration at the earliest. Komarpant’s tenure as councillor of the Canacona Municipal Council ended on March 31, 2026.
