Margao: Konkan Railway stepped up enforcement against ticketless and irregular travel in 2025, recovering a total of ₹20.27 crore in fares and penalties through extensive ticket-checking operations conducted across its route.
Railway officials said the recovery was made through a combination of regular and special ticket-checking drives aimed at discouraging unauthorised travel and ensuring safe and comfortable journeys for genuine passengers. From January to December 2025, Konkan Railway conducted 8,481 special drives, during which 3,68,901 cases of unauthorised or irregular travel were detected.
A significant number of checks were carried out in December 2025 alone, with 998 special drives conducted during the month. These inspections led to the detection of 43,896 ticketless and irregular passengers, resulting in the collection of ₹2.45 crore as fare and penalties.
The drives were carried out at stations and on board trains across the Konkan Railway network with the support of Railway Protection Force personnel and railway staff. Konkan Railway has appealed to passengers to travel with valid tickets to avoid inconvenience and fines.
Officials said such checking drives will continue as part of ongoing efforts to maintain discipline, safety and a comfortable travel environment for all passengers.
