PANAJI: Konkan Railway has added a second Roll-on Roll-off (Ro-Ro) rake with an upgraded 57-tonne loading capacity, giving a further boost to freight operations along its route, a senior official said on Friday. The Ro-Ro service, which enables loaded trucks to be transported on railway wagons, continues to serve as an economical and efficient logistics option for transporters using the coastal corridor.
According to officials, the first rake with the enhanced capacity was introduced on November 5, 2025, followed by the second on December 3, 2025. Each rake includes 15 BRN wagons that can carry trucks up to 57 MT and 35 BOXN wagons with a limit of 50 MT. The revised 57 MT allowance applies only to these two newly introduced rakes, while all other rakes will continue to operate with a maximum limit of 50 MT.
Officials added that excess load between 50 MT and 57 MT will attract charges of Rs 800 per MT plus GST. The improved carrying capacity is expected to benefit transporters dealing with heavy cargo such as iron and steel, marble, tiles, construction materials and other bulk goods. Konkan Railway reiterated its commitment to supporting producers, traders and industries with dependable freight solutions across the West Coast corridor.
