PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today said that Konkani is the official language of Goa, and it does not need anyone’s certificate.
Sawant was speaking at the All India Konkani Conference in the capital.
“Konkani is the official language of Goa.
It is a separate language. Konkani does not need anyone’s certificate,” said CM Sawant.
He further said that Konkani is not a dialect of Marathi in Goa, Karnataka or Kerala.
Speaking further, Sawant also welcomed the inclusion of the Konkani language in the Google Translate service.
The Chief Minister also said that the state government will make efforts to use Konkani in the functioning of the high court of Bombay at Goa along with English.
