Mardol: Mardol Police have registered an Unnatural Death (UD) case following the death of a 55-year-old man who collapsed near the Volvoi ferry point while on his way to work on Sunday.
According to police, UD No. 44/2025 under Section 194 of the BNSS, 2023, was registered after information was received at around 9.10 am on December 21 from the Marcel Outpost, which in turn had received a call from the doctor on duty at the Primary Health Centre (PHC), Betki, stating that a person had been brought dead to the health facility.
During the inquiry, police visited PHC Betki and confirmed that the deceased was identified as Deepak Salgaonkar (55), a resident of Surla, Pale, Bicholim. He was brought dead to PHC Betki from the Volvoi ferry point.
Further inquiry with family members revealed that the deceased was employed as a driver with the Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL). On December 21 at around 6.30 am, while proceeding to work from his residence, he suddenly collapsed near the Volvoi ferry point and was found lying unconscious. He was subsequently shifted to PHC Betki, where he was declared brought dead.
Police conducted an inquest panchanama over the body and referred it for post-mortem examination. The autopsy was conducted by the police surgeon, who certified the cause of death as acute myocardial ischemia (inferior wall) in a person with occlusive coronary artery disease.
After completion of legal formalities, the body was handed over to the family members for final religious rites. The inquiry is being conducted by PSI Abhilash Naik of Mardol Police Station.
