PORVORIM: KTCL drivers and employees held a one-day hunger strike today in front of the Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTCL) head office in Porvorim, protesting the management’s failure to address their long-pending demands. The striking employees submitted a charter of demands, which included the immediate payment of 7th pay arrears of 34 months, regularisation of daily-wage drivers and conductors who have completed five years of service with full benefits, and promotions for all staff, mechanics, conductors, drivers, and clerks based on seniority.
The employees also demanded rectification of anomalies and payment of two pending increments for twelve workers since July 2019, settlement of pending EPFO contributions from 2009 to March 2025 (including for retired employees), and issuance of KTCL uniforms to all drivers on the rolls. Additional demands included immediate settlement of the Charter of Demands for EV drivers employed through contractors, proper restrooms, leave and bonuses, employment of KTCL drivers on all EV buses operated by contractors, and ensuring that all electric buses are owned, operated, and maintained by KTCL.
The protest highlights the growing frustration among KTCL staff over delayed payments, irregular employment, and lack of promotions. Employees warned that if their demands are not addressed promptly, they may escalate the agitation further.
