Panaji: The Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL) will phase out paper-based monthly passes and fully transition to smart e-transit cards from August 1, in a major overhaul of its ticketing system aimed at enhancing transparency and curbing revenue leakages.
According to KTCL officials, the corporation will introduce two categories of digital passes—smart e-transit cards for general commuters and smart e-transit passes for students and other eligible segments.
The existing subsidies and fare concessions provided to students and frequent travellers will remain unchanged under the new system, officials clarified, noting that the change is only in the mode of issuance, shifting from physical paper passes to electronic cards.
To encourage early adoption, KTCL will offer a 10 per cent discount on e-cards during the initial rollout phase.
The smart cards will be route-specific, requiring commuters to use them only between designated start and end points. Passengers boarding the bus midway along the route will not be able to validate the e-transit card and will instead have to purchase a separate ticket, the officials said.
The move is part of KTCL’s broader efforts to modernise public transport operations across the state.
