Belagavi: The Kusmali bridge on the Belagavi–Chorla road near Jamboti has been opened for light vehicular traffic, with two-wheelers and cars now permitted to use the route. However, heavy vehicles remain barred from crossing, with authorities saying the restriction will continue until further notice to ensure safety.
The bridge is a crucial link for commuters travelling between Belagavi and Goa via the Chorla ghat section. Traffic on this busy route had been disrupted since June 10, after a temporary diversion over the Malaprabha River near the old Kusmalli bridge partially caved in.
The damage was caused by a sudden surge in the river’s flow following incessant rains in the Jamboti-Kankumbi forest area, cutting off reliable access on the key inter-state road until the Kusmali bridge was reopened for light vehicles.
