New Delhi: The Union Home Ministry on Wednesday confirmed that the situation in Ladakh has been brought under control, with no reports of fresh violence since 4 pm.
In an official statement, the ministry urged citizens and media outlets to avoid sharing old or provocative videos that could inflame tensions.
“Barring the unfortunate incidents that occurred earlier in the day, the situation in Ladakh was brought under control by 4 pm,” the statement read. The ministry reiterated that the central government remains committed to addressing the aspirations of Ladakh’s people by ensuring adequate constitutional safeguards.
Earlier in the day, protests demanding statehood for Ladakh turned violent in Leh, resulting in four deaths and leaving over 80 people injured including 40 police personnel.
Security forces, including police and paramilitary units, were deployed across the town and used teargas shells to disperse crowds and restore order, officials said.
